A Question of Cost
How much do you pay for medical insurance? How much more would you have if your premiums weren't so high? Do you have medical debt? If you're in Johnson County there's a 15% chance that you or your neighbors have debt in collections right now.
Solving the problem of Healthcare Cost, not just access is in the immediate interest of every Kansan. Medicaid expansion will be a priority.
You're Paying Too Much
Take a look at the sales tax at the bottom of your receipt the next time you come back from the grocery store. In Kansas, the state sales tax is 6.5%. In many states there is a lesser tax on food or no sales tax on it at all.
Lowering the tax on food benefits all income levels, supports JOCO food sales, and is simple to implement. I will fight to lower the tax on food sales or eliminate it altogether putting money back into your pocket.
The Stakes are High
Why do you live where you do? If you have young children like me a big part is due to the Olathe school district. Olathe is #3 on Niche for education with all A's in academis, diversity, teachers, college prep, clubs activities, and health & safety. Kansas, however, is underfunded.
I am personally invested in making sure that Kansas increases spending on eduction and teachers treated like the professionals they are.
